Subsahara Afrika: "Entwicklung der Unabhängigkeit  und die US-Politik"

Am 6. März 1957 hat Ghana als erstes Land südlich der Sahara die Unabhängigkeit erkämpft. Am Vorabend der Unabhängigkeitserklärung hat der damalige Präsident Kwame Nkrumah erklärt:

"Die Unabhängigkeit von Ghana ist ohne Bedeutung, wenn sie nicht mit der totalen wirtschaftlichen Emanzipation des gesamten afrikanischen Kontinents verbunden ist."

Ausserdem sagte er:

"Von jetzt an wird gezeigt, daß der Afrikaner seine eigenen Angelegenheiten regeln kann."

In unserem Vortrag wird versucht, diese Aussage unter die Lupe zu nehmen und dabei ein Bestandsaufnahme zu erbeiten. Danach werden die Zukunftsperspektiven zu Diskussion gestellt und die Teilnehmer haben die Möglichkeit zu diskutieren. Das Thema ist wieder aktuel da seit Anfang des Jahres in Afrika einige neue Regierungen gebildet worden sind.

Dr. Shaban Mayanja, Hannover und Dr. Kalu O. Kalu, Hannover sind die Referenten. Eine Stellungnahme aus der Politk bzw. Kirche wird erwartet.

Sub-Saharan Africa: "44 years of Independence and US Policy"

Ghana was the first African country south of the Sahara to achieve her independence, on 6th March 1957.  On the eve of this occasion the then president of Ghana Dr. Kwame Nkrumah declared:

"The independence of Ghana is meaningless unless it is linked up with the total economic emancipation of the whole continent of Africa."

He also added:

"The time has come to prove to the whole world that the African is capable of managing his own affairs."

How true these statements were at the time and how invaluable they seem to be at the beginning of the 21st century forms the basis of this symposium. What were the achievements and failures of governments in the different Sub-Saharan African countries. Has western (foreign) influence been of any help? The symposium will take us through these 44 years and endeavour to make suggestions for a better Africa; these suggestions will only be seen as such, and not as a panacea for Africa's numerous problems.

Discussions will be led by Dr. Shaban Mayanja, Hannover and Dr. Kalu O. Kalu, Hannover.
